Pressure Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 — UK and Northern Ireland market access.

Regulatory scope
PE(S)R applies to pressure equipment and assemblies with maximum permissible pressure (PS) exceeding 0.5 bar, with certain exclusions outlined in Regulation 4. "Pressure equipment" encompasses vessels, piping, safety accessories and pressure accessories.
Classification factors
Manufacturers must consider equipment type (vessel, steam generator or piping), fluid state (gas or liquid) and fluid group to determine classification under the conformity assessment table in Annex 1B.
Manufacturer responsibilities
Before market placement, manufacturers must ensure equipment meets essential safety requirements, classify it appropriately, determine applicable conformity procedures and execute relevant assessments. They must then prepare a declaration of conformity and affix the UKCA mark visibly and indelibly (a derogation allows label attachment until 31 December 2027).
How a project runs
The certification pathway involves submitting an RFQ, completing a Request for Approved Body Services form, and providing comprehensive technical documentation including design drawings, test results, welding procedure certificates and material inspection reports.
