ISO 29001:2020 QMS Certification
Petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries sector-specific QMS.
ISO 29001 is the Petroleum, Petrochemical and Natural Gas Industries Sector-Specific Quality Management System standard. It establishes requirements for organizations supplying products and services throughout the oil and gas production chain. Initially published in 2003 as ISO/TS 29001 through collaboration between ISO and the American Petroleum Institute, it was republished on 14 May 2020 integrating ISO 9001:2015 requirements with sector-specific focus.
Who benefits
Companies benefiting from this standard conduct research, production, transport and refining of petroleum and natural gas; design and manufacture dedicated equipment and facilities; supply specialised components; provide maintenance services; and deliver technical and support services.
Sector-specific additions
The standard incorporates fundamental ISO 9001:2015 quality management requirements while emphasising sector priorities — regulatory compliance, project and supplier management, resource management and product safety. Industry main contractors increasingly require this compliance from suppliers.
Certification cycle
Organizations submit a quotation request. Initial certification spans 36 months with stage-based audits and annual surveillance. Subsequent cycles include renewal audits before expiration. Audit duration follows IAF guidelines and Accredia technical regulations based on organisational size and complexity.
Note on accreditation
Our ISO 29001 certification services follow accreditation reference requirements but are currently provided on an uncredited basis. This does not affect the technical depth of our audits, only the formal accreditation status of the certificate.
