ISO 19443 QMS Certifications
Italy's first accreditation for nuclear supply-chain QMS certification.
We obtained Italy's first accreditation in 2022 for ISO 19443:2018 certification services. The standard, developed jointly by ISO and the International Atomic Energy Agency, specifies quality management requirements for nuclear energy sector suppliers — formally titled "Quality management systems – Specific requirements for the application of ISO 9001:2015 by organizations in the supply chain of nuclear energy sector supplying products and services important to nuclear safety (ITNS)".
What the standard adds to ISO 9001
The standard builds on ISO 9001:2015 while emphasising nuclear-specific priorities — including risk analysis, nuclear safety culture, ITNS determination, regulatory compliance, project management and supplier oversight. The audit depth is correspondingly greater than ISO 9001 alone.
Who benefits
Organizations providing design, manufacturing, equipment development, component supply, repair services or technical support (such as non-destructive testing) within the nuclear supply chain. Increasingly, nuclear operators require their supply chain to hold ISO 19443 certification as a condition of award.
Certification cycle
Companies submit a quotation request with scope details, site locations, outsourced processes and applicable standards. The initial 36-month certification cycle includes Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits plus annual surveillance audits. Subsequent 36-month cycles require renewal audits before expiration. Audit duration follows ISO/TS 23406:2020 and considers organisational size, complexity and activity scope.
